Chapter 1: The Gear of Fate
Vesper has arrive on the city, a brown coat cover her whole body, an attire of someone that must take a journey, especially going through the Raining Plain. This is the first time the girl ever set a foot on a huge city alone. On her hand is a paper.
‘Treiford… the home of Adventurer Guild’
She is here for a purpose, for that, first she must arrive to the guild.
For that, you must understand the Guild and its role on the Kingdom itself. The Guild is closest thing the people Kingdom has to for a police.
The Kingdom do have army, but just like in our world, the army is not responsible for local law enforcement, they are there to enforce the word of the King. The local city does have its simple law enforcement but it often not enough for the calamity that often befall the city.
Treiford was lucky to have the Guild. Well, no, it was the other way around, the Guild has Treiford. It was said that Great Mage Miranda brough back an artifact from the far land, a stone covered in unknown language and plant it as a foundation for her home wall. Since that time, calamity never touch that land again. Miranda and her family then go around and save people around that land, over time inviting people they trust to live under their protection around her home. That family keep growing and now known as the Guild.
Treiford eventually join Kingdom of Auror, the Guild and ruling family of Treiford is given position as the count. That is enough for simple introduction, there are more, but there is no use in telling it now.
We must avert our attention to how Guild, just like all institution generate money. The Guild, essentially provide security to anyone who hire them, their extraordinary individual become the cornerstone of local security against the calamity. Its not a charity indeed, as those who can’t afford their service will have bigger risk on losing everything to calamity. The Guild may or may not help when such thing happen, as they still prioritize their client over non-paying client.
However, people can also pay them to do anything as long as the Guild agree, this is what known as Quest. The quest is ranked from F the easiest and most low paying, to S the hardest and highest paying. S-level Quest is extremely rare, the last one Guild ever receive was about 50 years ago where they was tasked to take down a rebellion North region by the King himself. It was sure a controversial task, and it take 10 years and 300 adventurer to finish it. The hero who eventually close the rebellion is the late former Guild Master, the man who Vesper supposed to meet.
Yes, Vesper was late, she late for only a week.
Vesper tried to keep her distance from other, and walk fast. She ask direction multiple time and eventually arrive on Guild headquarter, the said ancestral seat of Great Mage Miranda. Her statue can be found just outside the headquarter surrounded by her fairy.
Vesper went in and find some queue to the guild clerk. The clerk wear similar uniform with headband and long dark brown dress. Most of this people only ask for a simple body guard mission since they will travel to other city or a simple extermination quest. Vesper hold the paper close to her chest and wait for her turn.
Eventually she stand before the clerk.
“Yes, how we can help you?”
Vesper said
“Can I meet with Master Eincard?”
The clerk goes quite for a bit and sadly smile,
“Unfortunately, Master Eincard has pass away a week ago.”
“Oh no, I’m sorry” Vesper said quietly while trying to figure out what to do with her paper. That man said to show it directly to Master Eincard only.
“Excuse me, but do you know Master Eincard?” the clerk ask
“Ah, no, I never meet with him, but I was told to passed on a message to him” Vesper look at the paper for a bit. Can she give this paper to her? the master is dead, what should she do?
The clerk, immediately knew that paper, that is the paper they usually used to officially certificate Quest document for adventurer that is on field.
“Can I see that paper? That is a quest right?”
“I, no, I’m sorry, I will back later” Vesper immediately went before the clerk can even said anything.
“Wait!” the clerk shout for a bit, taking attention of some adventurer near but its nothing interesting so they let it go. Except for one.
A boy, take a look at Vesper and remember something, something his father said before he die.
“A girl with beautiful black hair…”
Yes, Vesper had an especially silky black hair.
He go to the clerk and ask.
“Lina, who is she?”
“Ah, she said she want to pass on a message to your father”
And so, the gear of fate has move. There is nothing that can stop it now. The meeting of those two will bring close to the chapter that was begin millennia ago.
The boy saw the girl wandering into the lake next to the Guild.
“Excuse me, I hear you are looking for my father?” the boy slowly getting close to her. Vesper turn around and look at the boy, his almond eyes and brown hair is the first thing she notice.
“Father? you?”
“Yes, my name is Eincard Klauz, the only son of Master Eincard Vin”
Vesper is yet to trust him, that man told her to give it to Eincard. only to Eincard. Wait, only to Eincard? an Eincard? so it include him isn’t it?
“I hear you have a message to my father? and that Quest paper?” the boy ask, he also recognize the paper he always see everyday.
“Here, I was told to give it to Eincard” Vesper give him the paper.
Klauz speechless, take the paper and see that it a certified quest document dated to 5 year ago. A S class quest personally stamped and signatured by his father.
Quest: Escort one who invoke this quest to the End of World
Reward: Speak with the death
Klauz turn around, the clerk has come out of the building and checking on them. Klauz give the paper to her, she seem more shocked than Klauz, she immediately run inside.
Vesper and Klauz now stand on the side of the lake.
“So, do you accept?” Vesper ask sharply
